This presentation will cover several key topics related to managing allegations against people in a position of trust with children, both in paid and voluntary roles. It will begin by explaining what a Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) is and their role in safeguarding children. It will then clarify the differences between an allegation, a complaint, and a concern. The concept of harm will be discussed, including the harm test and its categories - accidental, reckless, and deliberate. The presentation will also explore the processes of fact-finding and investigations, as well as how to manage low-level concerns effectively. Reporting procedures for allegations and the broader process of allegation management will be outlined. In addition, possible outcomes from a referral will be considered. The importance of listening to and incorporating the voice of the child will be emphasized throughout. Finally, the presentation will highlight the key features of a safer organisational culture.
